Poor Manners: The Rogue Who Dances With Destiny

Poor Manners

The following is a feature on one of the characters presented in the Atomic Peanut Butter Group and Dragonlance Nexus collaboration live play,

On a continent where gods quarrel and knights recite the measure like scripture; one man slips through the cracks with a wink and a flourish. Poor Manners is not here to save Krynn—he’s here to entertain it, outwit it, and maybe, just maybe, steal its heart.

Born into Sawdust and Spotlight

Traveling across Ansalon with the Ergothian circus, the Gallant Troupe of Prestige and Wonder, Poor Manners was raised in a world of color, chaos, and charm. His mother, Maribelle the Magnificent, dazzled crowds with her aerial feats, while his adopted sister, Elowen Brightstar, brought quiet grace to the troupe. Poor Manners? He brought trouble—and applause.

From tightropes to knife tricks, he mastered the art of spectacle. But beneath the glittering surface lies a mind as sharp as his daggers. He sees the world not as a battlefield of gods and banners, but as a stage—one where every noble, soldier, and peasant plays a part, whether they know it or not.

A Code and Oath of His Own

Poor Manners doesn’t kneel to Paladine or pledge to the Oath and the Measure. His loyalty is to luck, laughter, and the people who surround him. He moves freely through Ansalon, welcomed—or at least tolerated—wherever the circus rolls in. His charm opens doors that swords cannot, and his fingers are as nimble with coin purses as they are with juggling blades.

He’s the common man’s rogue: clever, irreverent, and utterly unbound. Where others see war, he sees opportunity. Where others see fate, he sees a chance to rewrite the script.

“Careful love, the gods can keep their codes and oaths. Danger is just applause waiting to happen.”

Charm, Grace and a Hero….

Though he plays the fool, Poor Manners is no stranger to loyalty. When Elowen left the troupe, drawn by divine visions and a calling to heal, Manners followed. Not to stop her—but to watch over her. To make sure the world didn’t crush the light she carried. His love for her is fierce, protective, and often disguised behind teasing words and dramatic gestures.

Poor Manners is the wildcard of the party. The man who can charm a guard, distract a crowd, or vanish with a grin. He’s not the hero Krynn expects—but he might be the one it needs.

Layered Like an Onion

Poor Manners is the counterpoint to Dragonlance’s grand themes of destiny and divine order. He reminds us that not every story is written in prophecy. Some are scribbled in chalk on circus wagons, whispered in alleyways, or shouted from atop a flagpole mid-performance.

He’s proof that even in a world of dragons and gods, there’s room for mischief, for joy, and for the kind of courage that doesn’t just rely on armor.

And when the curtain rises on the next chapter of The Dark Patrol, you can bet Poor Manners will be center stage—dagger in hand, grin on his lips, and a crowd of onlookers calling his name.
