Climate Maps of Ansalon Circa 421 AC

The maps below were based on data provided by the Dragonlance Nexus weather application. Based on the selection of US cities that the Nexus used for its weather application, I went to the National Weather Service website and found archived data sets for all of the cities. I then determined the climate for the city locations following Koppen’s classification to see how well it fit both climate and vegetation descriptions in the Player’s Guide to the Dragonlance Campaign the Dragonlance Campaign Setting sourcebook and published maps of Ansalon.

Since the primary controls on climate and vegetation are temperature and precipitation, I decided to use the Divisional Normals data from the National Climatic Data Center. Using data from 1961-1990 and several good models which correlate average annual temperature and precipitation data to major climates and vegetation biomes, I determined what vegetation types are possible for the climate temperature and precipitation range.

Enjoy!

The mage’s soul is forged in the crucible of the magic. You choose to go voluntarily into the fire. The fire might very well destroy you. But if you survive, every blow of the hammer will serve to shape your being. Every drop of water wrung from you will temper and strengthen your soul.
