Did You Know?

“The Test of the Twins” was originally published in Dragon Magazine #83 (March, 1984). It tells the story of Raistlin’s Test, and was the first piece of Dragonlance fiction ever published. Unlike the version presented in this book, the magazine version ends on a slightly upbeat note, with Raistlin asking Caramon’s forgiveness. The story of Raistlin’s Test was later expanded and retold in The Soulforge.

The second piece of Dragonlance fiction ever published was “A Stone’s Throw Away,” originally published in Dragon Magazine #85 (May, 1984), which is also reprinted here. It tells of Tasslehoff’s adventure with a ring of teleportation; he also meets the demon lord Demogorgon, of Dungeons & Dragons (and Stranger Things) fame.

“Finding the Faith” tells the story of Laurana and the Companions in Icewall. This was later expanded and retold in Dragons of the Highlord Skies.

“The Legacy” was later reprinted in The Second Generation.
