Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington against Wizards of the Coast, claiming that Wizards had breached a contract related to a planned trilogy of new Dragonlance novels to be published by Penguin Random House.

The complaint alleges that Weis & Hickman had entered into a license agreement with Wizards of the Coast to work on a new trilogy, with the first two books being named Dragons of Deceit and Dragons of Fate. After the first book’s manuscript was turned in and with the second one’s manuscript being a work in progress, Wizards told the pair they would not accept any new drafts of the trilogy which, according to the lawsuit, effectively terminated the contract without reason.

The complaint claims that Wizards cancelled their license agreement with Weis & Hickman because of a series of high profile controversies involving Wizards.

Weis and Hickman are requesting a jury trial and claim that Wizards’ actions have resulted in damages in excess of $10 million.

  1. I met Tracy Hickman at a conference once to get a book signed back in 2011. When I asked if he had any new books planned, he said there was a whole trilogy in need of a publisher. Wonder if it’s this one.

  2. I hope MW & TH are given the dragonlance IP as a quick settlement. If wotc isn’t going to use the IP, they should relinquish it.

  3. Change.org petition to pressure Wizards of the Coast to fix this and get us the Trilogy!!!
